The First Wave Hip-Hop and Urban Arts Learning Community is a multicultural arts program that offers aspiring artists a full-tuition scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as the opportunity to learn and create art with other artists. The program is unique to UW-Madison and attracts students from across the country. First Wave artists predominantly share a background in spoken word poetry, but most have explored other art forms as well. The first cohort of First Wave students began their college careers at UW-Madison in 2007.
